Congratulations to the following students in qualifying for the ACSI district Spelling Bee to be held in February 2010 in Winter Garden: 1st graders Courtney Hess and Catrina Lim; 2nd graders Miguel Ongsiako and Roberto Tagui; 3rd grades Paige Kaser and Natalie Manjarres; 4th graders Camilla Lim and Sarah Nortelus!
Approximately in March of every school year, Heartland Christian School participates in the regional ACSI 1st-4th Grade Spelling Bee, held in Winter Haven at Foundation Academy. 8 students are chosen through various spelling competitions in their own classrooms; then all 8 students, under the guidance and coordination efforts of Kindergarten teacher Linda Hay prepare weekly until the day of the competition.
Chaperones are always needed, as well as event workers. This year, Mr. Kaser, Mrs. Kaser, Mrs. Hay and Mrs. Fronda performed different duties as requested by the host school -- from judging and keeping track of all words used in each competition, to actually peforming "Spell Master duties -- reading the words to students participating. It is a fun way to serve students and be involved in a very exciting competition and activity!
In March 2009, Heartland Christian School 2nd Grade student Jabez Asuncion won 1st place in his division, competing against 38 other 2nd Grade students from around Central Florida representing over 12 different ACSI schools.
For the 2009-2010 school year, it is the goal of HCS to begin competing in the 5th-8th grade competiton as well, typically held in March and generally in an Orlando area school.
