Middle School Etiquette Class Review

What is Etiquette?

Etiquette = rules for good behavior.  Manners = good beahvior.

Even though times have changed and etiquette has changed, the principles remain the same: respect and consideration for others.  Developing Christian character is the central theme throughout the course.

THEME SCRIPTURE VERSE:  "Regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others."  Philippians 2: 3-4

The objective of the program is to help the students develop the skills necessary to interact confidently and professionally with a God-given respect for others, in both social and business settings.

The Banquet

This semi-formal affair gives students the oportunity to demonstrate a lot of what they have learned in class such as:  Introductions, conversational skills, public speaking, hosting, serving and table manners.

The guest list (of adults) plays an integral part in hosting the dinner, and in effect it creates the atmosphere.  Who is invited?  Parents, teachers, school board members, civic leaders, government officials, business owners, radio and newspaper personnel, pastors and doctors (to name a few).

Student responsibilities at the banquet include:  Arriving early to set up food and drinks, greeting guests, serving punch and mingling, escorting guests to their tables (with gentlemen pulling out chairs), introducing the adults and guests at each table, reciting a Bible verse applicable to the occasion, offering thaks through prayer, inviting people to the buffet table and serving beverages, carrying on dinner conversation, clearing places when finished, dancing, serving coffee and dessert, and thanking guests and parents for making the evening possible

THIS EXPERIENCE CANNOT BE DUPLICATED IN THE CLASSROOM

Press releases, community view that the training of well-rounded individuals is taking place, setting high social and academic standards benefiting all community members, students who are willing to offer service back to the community and relationships forged with community members.

HCS strives to train its students to be the leaders of the next generation.  The desire of the Etiquette experience is for all HCS students to become adults who can both lead confidently and follow respectfully.

"How I benefited from Etiquette class"

"I benefited from this class by learning more about dance than I ever knew before.  Since I've never had the opportunity to partner dance, this was an opportunity I had to take.

Even though I knew some steps to similar dances such as the jitterbug, now when I go back this summer (to where I moved from in Daytona Beach) I can teach my friends how to do some of the dances they don't know.

Plus, it (knowing dance steps) looks good for parts in a play, and it will impress my dance teacher.  Thank you Mrs. C for teaching such a good class!"

Dallas Doughney, 7th grade student

"It is senseless to pay tuition to educate someone who has no heart for wisdom." (Prov.17:16 NLT)
